Couldn't I just sign up with Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify...etc directly? Why go through MusicDigi?

Unfortunately digital retailers do not deal directly with individual artists.

In order to get your music on Apple Music or others you need to:

a) get signed to a major record label owning distribution deals with digital retailers (i.e: Warner Bros record)

OR

b) go through a digital distributor like MusicDigi.
